Working from Home
Working From Home
Increasing numbers of people work from home now as tere are many benefits:
- No Stressful Commute
- Flexible Hours of Work
- No-one Looking Over Your Shoulder
- No Commuting Costs
- More Time
However, working from home does require other personal attributes which have to be learned if not already instilled such as:
- Discipline
- Motivation
- Organisational Skills
With no-one looking over your shoulder, it’s easy to make excuses why you’re not completing something you know must be done. When you begin and finish work are matters you need to adhere to. You may have extra time not spent travelling to and from your place of work but that does not mean you can relax especially when you are being given the opportunity to start and finish your normal working day much earlier than you would ordinarily!
As an example, let us assume you are lucky enough not to spend more than 30 minutes each way on your journey to the office. Add another 15 minutes each day dressing appropriately and you have 1.25 hours per day or 6.25 hours per week more time. Multiply this by an average 22 working days per month and you have 27.5 hours per month more time than if you had to travel to work.
This is the equivalent of 3.43 working days no longer dressing and travelling to and from work. In a year this adds up to an incredible 330 hours or 41.25 working days (based on an 8 hour working day), or 13.75 whole days!
The benefits are clear but the price you pay for this is mentioned above. If you can master these issues you will find you have much more time to yourself or time to spend with your family. With some careful organisation you could easily work a four day week and with a little more effort just three days. Should you be offered this option, consider it carefully.
